“TrakitGPS™ has been an important part of our daily operation now for over 5 years. In addition to the ability we have to see all of our trucks on a map in near real time, we utilize TrakitGPS™ in many of our other critical business functions as well. It has evolved into a very helpful management tool. Although our employees are generally good, occasionally there are times when we have questions about situations that arise. In one particular instance, we grew suspicious of one of our drivers because he was getting lapped by the other delivery trucks that had been sent out to the same job location after him. We also had a concern that he was loading his truck a little heavy and wet.
After a review of some important TrakitGPS™ reports, we discovered that he had been stopped for 45 minutes at a location well away from the obvious returning route. The GPS fix reports also showed that he had made this same deviated trip at least 4 times over the previous month. A quick reconnaissance mission to the suspected address revealed a brand new driveway, in front of a rental property that was owned by the driver in question. Unfortunately, when confronted, he denied any wrong doing and was then asked to leave our employ.
Just when things were getting back to normal, we were notified that the former employee’s termination was being questioned. We soon found ourselves in a mediation situation where we were discussing accusations of, “wrongful termination”. We simply provided the interested parties with copies of our TrakitGPS™ “Fix Report”, that showed date & time stamped latitude and longitude fix-points that effectively showed the drivers minute to minute movement on the days in question. Presented with this helpful report, he and his associates decided it was better to drop the whole uncomfortable situation and forget about the $50,000.00 they originally suggested we owed them. “The TrakitGPS™ system also allows us to replace our time clock by using the in-cab GPS tracking devices to clock in and out of their time cards. We allow our employees to take their GPS devices home with them in the evenings to clean, maintain, and make sure they are fully charged ready to use the next day.
After successfully running the TrakitGPS™ fleet tracking and payroll modules for over 2 years, our payroll department decided to do a casual time keeping audit of our 165 drivers to see if there happened to be any obvious irregularities. Our payroll clerks discovered that three of our drivers were not clocking out at the end of their work day until they were well on their way home; this meant an additional 15-20 minutes per day per employee. On average, we over paid those three drivers near 5 hours a week in over time pay. The most surprising thing was that these were long term employees that had been with us for 3, 6, and 9 years. The experience made me wonder; if they were trying to beat the system by stealing 15 minutes a day with a GPS tracking device, what else had they been stealing over the last nine years.”
